“The Fear of Joining a Running Group”.

For weeks I drove by my local community running group just a few miles away from where I lived. They would meet every Tuesday night, starting at 6:30pm. I wanted to park and join them, mostly out of curiosity and of course to see what my potential was with running in my neighborhood. Then finally one tuesday night I parked, had my headphones in with my motivating playlist and walked up to the group. I signed a waiver of liability , started connecting with others and took off for a 3 mile run with one of the group leaders. They had divided people up based on your timed mile and for safety. This was the start of an incredible adventure that would turn into my passion and a part of my daily life to this day.

I learned there were other community running groups, I also learned about the running world and little by little got sucked in. I remember thinking anything past 3-6 miles was insane and not for me. Well standing here now I have completed hundreds of miles for many races up to some ultras and my mindset now questions what more can I do and how can I do it versus before with the mindset of I don't think I can do this , I will try my best and let’s see what will happen. Just by stepping out my door, finding my local running group, and actually joining the group. Don’t let fear take over opportunities for you to smile and truly meet amazing people. We worry so much about others' opinions and our performance when everyone truly is there to form a community of support and to have fun!  I am inspired by people and will be starting a running group soon here in Los Angeles. I invite you to park your car and join me because it truly could be life changing for you, and the others around you.
